Aciphex greatly reduces the amount of stomach acid. Aciphex is used for the treatment of ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD or heartburn), and other conditions caused by the release of large amounts of acid in the stomach. Aciphex is administered orally in the form of enteric-coated tablets with a delayed-release formula. The formula ensures slow release of the active ingredients. The normal prescription dose for adults is one 20 mg Aciphex tablet to be administered once daily for a period of four to eight weeks. The tablets must be taken whole with a full glass of water. Do not break, chew, or split the tablets.
Warnings Precautions
If you are using any of the following medicines: ketoconazole (Nizoral), ampicillin (Omnipen, Principen), iron (Feosol, Mol-Iron, Fergon, Femiron, others), digoxin (Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps), or cyclosporine (Sandimmune, Neoral), consult your doctor before beginning treatment with Aciphex. Dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment may be required and in some cases the administration of Aciphex might not be allowed at all. Before using any prescription or over-the-counter medicines, consult your doctor or pharmacist since Aciphex may interact with drugs other than the ones listed above.
Missing a Dose
In case of missing a dose, take it as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule if it is almost time for your next dose. Never take two doses at the same time.
Possible Side Effects
Few cases of mild or serious Aciphex side effects have been reported. If you experience an allergic reaction to Aciphex (difficulty in breathing; throat congestion; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives), discontinue treatment and seek medical help immediately. If you experience a headache; an upset stomach or diarrhea; insomnia or nervousness; or a rash or itching, continue the treatment with Aciphex and consult your doctor. In case of side effects other than the ones listed above which appear unusual or are particularly irritating, consult your doctor.
