Aldara Cream is used for the treatment of external genital and perianal warts. It differs from other similar medications as it deals with the virus causing the warts instead of just relieving the condition. Aldara cream is for external use only.
Aldara cream is applied on the warts at bedtime and acts during sleeping hours. Wash off after waking up. Follow prescription instructions carefully. Do not ingest and avoid contact with the eyes, lips or nostrils. For any clarifications on the use of Aldara Cream, consult your doctor. Aldara Cream is recommended for use in several skin conditions. Apply Aldara Cream only to the affected area. Your doctor will provide you with instructions on the use of Aldara Cream depending on your condition. Do not use Aldara Cream longer than prescribed. The frequent use of Aldara may cause a skin reaction or other adverse effects. In case Aldara Cream does not have the desired effect, ask your doctor for advice. The recommended dose for external genital and perianal warts is once a day over a period of 3 days a week. If you have been diagnosed with such a condition, leave Aldara Cream for between 6 and 10 hours. Do not terminate the treatment until the warts have healed fully or use up to 16 weeks. If your diagnosis is actinic keratosis, the recommended dose of Aldara Cream is once a day over 2 days a week. In this case, leave Aldara Cream on the skin for about 8 hours. Unless otherwise directed by your doctor, continue to apply Aldara Cream for the full 16 weeks or until all actinic keratoses disappear. The treated area should not exceed the size of your forehead or one cheek.
Warnings Precautions
If you detect the symptoms of severe skin irritation or flu-like symptoms (diarrhea, fatigue, fever, headache, or muscle pain), contact your doctor. In such cases, it might become necessary to discontinue the treatment with Aldara Cream until the flu-like symptom subside or to apply the cream less frequently. Avoid sexual intercourse after application of Aldara Cream and while it is still on the skin. This medicine contains oils which may weaken latex (rubber) condoms, diaphragms, or cervical caps and prevent contraception. Unless otherwise directed by your doctor, do not use other skin products on the treated area. Do not pass Aldara Cream onto others even if they have the same symptoms.
