Alesse

Alesse has a 99% efficacy as a birth control method when taken as directed. It contains natural hormones which prevent the ovary from releasing an egg and the penetration of sperm in the uterus. Alesse ensures reliability and ultimate satisfaction of intimate moments.

Unless otherwise directed by your doctor, start taking the pill on the first Sunday after the beginning of your period. Take one pill every day, no later than 24 hours after the last pill. It is preferable to take the pill at an easily remembered time every day – at bedtime, with a meal, or first thing in the morning. If the pill is taken at night, this may help relieve any nausea or headache caused by the hormones contained in the pill. Take one pill every day if your period comes every 28 days. Dispose of the pack when it runs out and start the new pack on the following day. There are 7 “reminder” pills in the 28-day period pack which are either placebos (with no active ingredients) or iron supplements. Their purpose is to maintain a regular cycle and should be taken during menstruation. One pill should be taken every day if your period comes every 21 and then seven pill-free days should follow. Your cycle should occur during the 7 days with no pills. Start a new pack on the 8thday. To avoid getting pregnant, consult your doctor in case of using a second form of birth control at the beginning of taking the pill, if you are taking antibiotics or you have missed a pill.

Warnings Precautions

If you have high blood pressure, angina, or heart disease; have had a stroke; have a bleeding or blood-clotting disorder; breast, uterine, or another hormone-related cancer; liver disease or a history of jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes) caused by use of birth control in the past; undiagnosed, abnormal vaginal bleeding; migraines, asthma, seizures or epilepsy, consult your doctor before beginning to take the pill. Lower dosage or special monitoring during treatment may be required if you suffer from any of the above-listed conditions. In some cases, birth control pills may not be recommended at all. Hormones contained in birth control pills are passed onto breast milk and may reduce lactation. If you are breast-feeding, do not take birth control pills without consulting your doctor first. Birth control pills belong to the X FDA pregnancy category, meaning that they are harmful for the fetus. Hormonal changes during pregnancy have resulted in serious harm to the fetus. If you are pregnant or you think you might be pregnant, do not take birth control pills.

Missing a Dose

Missing a pill or beginning the pack later than directed might result in pregnancy. The likelihood of becoming pregnant in the 7 days after you miss a dose increases proportionately to the number of pills missed. In case of missing the pink active pills, especially the first or last few in the pack, the effect of the pills may be reduced. Missing a dose may result in SPOTTING OR LIGHT BLEEDING, even after the missed dose has been made up for. Nausea may be felt during days when two pills are taken in order to make up for missed pills.

Possible Side Effects

Vaginal bleeding, fluid retention and melasma are among the possible side effects of Alesse. Other side effects may include nausea, breast tenderness, change in appetite, headache, nervousness, depression, dizziness, loss of scalp hair, rash, vaginal infections, inflammation of the pancreas, and allergic reactions. If you experience any of these symptoms, consult your doctor.

Storage

Store Alesse in its original container, away from children. Store at controlled room temperature 20° to 25°C (68° to 77°F).

Overdose

Nausea, vomiting, drowsiness/fatigue and withdrawal bleeding are among the symptoms of a contraceptive overdose. No specific treatment is applied in such cases and merely the symptoms of an overdose are normally addressed.

More Information

Before prescribing oral contraceptives, your doctor must preview your medical and family history, and perform an examination. Physical examinations may be postponed if necessary. An annual re-examination must take place. Notify your doctor in case of family history involving symptoms described above. Adhere strictly to the examination schedule in order to determine if there are early signs of side effects of Alesse. Alesse must be applied properly for its intended purpose. Each prescription is personal and should not be passed on to others. Smoking greatly increases the risk of heart attack, stroke, or blood clot formation and should therefore be avoided.
