Allegra is administered for the relief of symptoms associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis in adults and children 6 years of age and older. Allegra treats effectively the following symptoms: sneezing, rhinorrhea, itchy nose/palate/throat, itchy/watery/red eyes. Inform your doctor of all non-prescription and prescription medication you might be taking, especially if you are using adrenaline-like drugs, MAO inhibitors, certain blood pressure drugs or digoxin. Administration
Allegra is administered orally in the form of capsules or tablets. The medicine is normally taken twice a day, in the morning and in the evening. Follow your doctor’s instructions. Take each dose with a full glass of water.
Warnings Precautions
Allegra is not to be used if you have ever had an allergic reaction to it. Before taking this medication, inform your doctor if you suffer from any serious illness such as heart, kidney, or liver disease. Dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment might be required in case of other illnesses. Allegra is in the C FDA pregnancy category meaning that its effects on the fetus are unknown. It is not clear whether Allegra is passed onto breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking the medication if you are pregnant or if you are breast-feeding. Allegra is not recommended for children younger than 6 years of age.
Missing a Dose
Take the medication as soon as you remember in case you miss a dose. Skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule if it is nearly time for your next dose. Never take two doses at the same time.
Possible Side Effects
If you experience an allergic reaction (symptoms may include difficulty in breathing; throat congestion; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives), stop taking Allegra and seek medical help. Few cases of an allergic reaction have been reported. Other serious side effects are not likely to occur. If you suffer from nausea or an upset stomach, continue to take Allegra and consult your doctor. Side effects other than the above-mentioned may occur. In case of side effects that appear unusual or are particularly irritating, consult your doctor.
Storage
Store Allegra capsules and tablets at normal room temperature 20-25°C (68-77°F). The Allegra foil-backed blister packs containing capsules and all tablet packaging should be protected from excessive moisture.
Overdose
Dizziness, drowsiness, and dry mouth are among the symptoms of an Allegra overdose. Seek medical help immediately should you experience any of those.
