Detrol LA is used for the treatment of overactive bladder and for the relief of symptoms related to this condition such as: urinary incontinence, urgency, and frequency. Detrol LA is administered orally in the form of tablets or extended-release (long-acting) capsules. Follow strictly prescription instructions and ask your doctor for clarifications should parts of the label be unclear to you. The recommended dose for the tablets is twice a day. The extended-release capsule is usually taken once a day with liquid. The capsules should be swallowed whole without crushing or chewing them. Take Detrol LA exactly as directed. Do not overdose or take this medicine more or less frequently than advised by your doctor.
Warnings Precautions
If you have liver or kidney disease; or glaucoma, do not use Detrol LA without consulting your doctor first. Dosage adjustment or special monitoring may be required if any of the above-listed conditions are detected and in some cases the use of Detrol LA may not be recommended at all. Detrol LA is in the C FDA pregnancy category C, meaning that its effect on the fetus or nursing infants is unknown. If you are pregnant or could become pregnant, or you are breast-feeding during treatment, do not take Detrol LA without consulting your doctor first. In case of urinary tract (difficulty in urinating) or intestinal blockage, do not take Detrol LA.
Missing a Dose
If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do NOT take 2 doses at once.
Possible Side Effects
Some of the less serious side effects of Detrol LA are more likely to occur. If you experience dry mouth, dryness of the eyes, blurred vision or dilated pupils, upset stomach, headache, constipation, difficulty urinating, drowsiness, or dizziness, continue the treatment with Detrol LA and inform your doctor. Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. In case you experience any symptoms that appear unusual or are particularly irritating, consult your doctor. If you experience an allergic reaction (difficulty in breathing; throat congestion; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives), stop taking Detrol LA and seek emergency medical attention.
Storage
Store at controlled room temperature 20?° to 25?° C (68?° to 77?° F).
Overdose
The typical symptoms of a Detrol LA overdose have not been identified but might include restlessness, tremor, irritability, seizures, delirium, hallucinations, flushing, fever, nausea, vomiting, rapid heartbeat and coma. In case of a suspected overdose, seek medical help immediately.

Detrol LA reduces the sweating function of the body and may increase the risk of heat stroke. Avoid excess heat. Drink plenty of fluid in order to maintain adequate hydration levels. Detrol LA may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision and caution should be exercised when driving, operating machinery or performing hazardous activities. Alcohol may increase drowsiness and dizziness during the treatment with Detrol LA and alcohol consumption should be limited.
