Flonase is used for the relief of multiple nasal symptoms of congestion, sneezing, or an itchy or runny nose. Flonase Nasal Spray is administered locally to the nasal mucosa via a metering, atomizing spray pump. Flonase achieves best results when used on a regular basis. Since Flonase is used to relieve inflammation, it should be used once daily in accordance with the instructions of your doctor. The recommended starting dosage in adults is 2 sprays (50 mcg of Flonase Nasal Spray propionate each) in each nostril once daily (total daily dose, 200 mcg). An equivalent dosage of 100 mcg may be split and administered twice daily (e.g., 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.) to the same effect. After initial treatment, dosage may be reduced to 100 mcg (1 spray in each nostril) once daily in order to maintain a supplementary therapy. Some patients (12 years of age and older) with seasonal allergic rhinitis may find it necessary to proceed with 200 mcg once daily in order to control the initial symptoms.
