Mechanism
Imitrex targets blood vessels and nerves which are the cause migraine headaches.
Administration
The recommended dose of Imitrex is one a day. In case of severe headaches you may take up to two doses if so instructed by your doctor. A dose of 200 mg per day should not be exceeded.
Possible Side Effects
Dizziness, nausea, fatigue, drowsiness are among the possible side effects of Imitrex.
Warnings/Precautions
Imitrex should not be taken if you suffer from any of the following conditions: allergy to Imitrex, Raynaud syndrome, history of strokes, certain types of heart disease, transient ischemic attacks, varying blood pressure, peripheral vascular disease. If you smoke, have high cholesterole, high blood pressure or diabetes, consult your doctor before taking Imitrex.
Overdose
If you suspect an overdose, seek medical help immediately.
Drug Interactions
If you are using any headache medication, ergotamine or MAO inhibitors such as linezolid, furazolidone, tranylcypromine, phenelzine, selegiline, consult your doctor before using Imitrex.
Missing a Dose
Imitrex should not be administered on a regular basis. It should only be taken in case of migraine attacks.
Storage
Store Imitrex in its original container. Do not expose to heat or moisture. Store at normal temperature. Keep out of reach of children.
Pregnancy/Nursing
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, consult your doctor before taking Imitrex.
