Lamisil is recommended for the treatment of toe and fingernail onychomycosis caused by dermatophytes. Lamisil is administered orally in the form of tablets, usually once a day over a period of 6 weeks for fingernail fungus and once a day over a period of 12 weeks in cases of toenail fungus. Follow strictly prescription instructions.
Do not overdose or take Lamisil more or less frequently than prescribed. Fungal infections might not have been completely cured until after a few months of termination of the therapy with Lamisil. Time is required for healthy nails to grow in.
Warnings Precautions
If you have ever detected an allergic reaction to Lamisil, if you have liver or kidney disease, immune system or blood problems, do not take Lamisil without consulting your doctor first. Dosage adjustment or special monitoring might be required if you have any of the above-listed conditions and in some cases the use of Lamisil might not be recommended at all. Lamisil is in the B FDA pregnancy category, meaning that it is not expected to have a harmful effect on the fetus. Lamisil is passed onto breast milk and might affect a nursing infant. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, do not take Lamisil without consulting your doctor first.
Missing a Dose
In case of missing a dose, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose and take the next one as directed if it is almost time for your next dose. Do not take two doses of Lamisil at the same time.
Possible Side Effects
If you experience an allergic reaction (difficulty in breathing; throat congestion; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives); a rash; changes in vision; or blood problems indicated by blood tests, discontinue the treatment with Lamisil and seek medical help immediately. Lamisil has been reported to cause severe liver damage in a few rare cases which have required a liver transplant and have occasionally resulted in death. If you experience nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, unusual fatigue, loss of appetite, yellowing of the skin or eyes, itching, dark urine, or clay colored stools, contact your doctor immediately as these symptoms may be the early signs of liver damage. If you experience nausea, upset stomach, or heartburn; diarrhea or flatulence; headache; or taste alterations or loss of taste, continue the treatment with Lamisil and notify your doctor as these are among the less serious side effects of Lamisil. Other side effects have been known to occur. If you detect any symptoms that appear unusual or are particularly bothersome, ask your doctor for advice.
Storage
Store tablets below 25o C (77o F). Dispense in a tight container. Do not expose to light.
Overdose
Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dizziness, rash, frequent urination, and headache are among the known symptoms of a Lamisil overdose, although clinical evidence in this respect is limited. In case of an overdose, seek medical help immediately.
More Information
If you have ever suffered from hypersensitivity to Lamisil, this medicine should be avoided. Limit alcohol consumption during the treatment with Lamisil since both these tablets and alcohol may cause liver damage.
