Patanol

patanolPatanol is a prescription drug used for the relief of allergy symptoms. Patanol comes in the form of eye drops and is used to deal with itching and redness. These symptoms can be prevented by the regular use of Patanol. Patanol is usually administered twice a day in each eye, at an interval of 6 to 8 hours.

Warnings Precautions

If you have a bacterial, viral, or fungal eye infection, do not take Patanol unless you are also receiving proper anti-infective treatment. Patanol is in the C FDA pregnancy category, meaning that its effect on the fetus is unknown. It is also not clear whether Patanol is passed onto breast milk. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, do not use this medication before consulting your doctor first. Patanol does not have FDA approval for use by children younger than 3 years of age.

Missing a Dose

In case of missing a dose, apply the missed dose as soon as you remember.

Possible Side Effects

No serious side effects have been reported during treatment with Patanol. If you experience an allergic reaction (difficulty in breathing; throat congestion; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives), seek medical help immediately. A burning or stinging sensation, irritation, itching, redness, or dryness of the eyes; swollen eyelids; a stuffy or runny nose; headache; or taste alterations are among the less serious side effects of Patanol that are more likely to occur. In such cases, continue to apply Patanol and contact your doctor. Other side effects may also occur. If you experience symptoms that appear unusual and are different than the above-listed, consult your doctor.

Storage

Store at temperatures of between 39?°F and 86?°F (4?°C to 30?°C).

Overdose

Although an overdose of this medication is unlikely to occur, seek immediate medical help in case you suspect an overdose. In case of ingestion of the drops, drink plenty of fluid and contact your doctor for advice.

Avoid touching the drop dispenser with your hands and maintain it sterile. In case of contamination, it may cause an eye infection. Do not wear contact lenses while applying this medication since Patanol contains a preservative (benzalkonium chloride). Contact lenses may be inserted back about 15 minutes after applying the medication. Do not use other eye drops simultaneously without the approval of your doctor.
