Propecia

Propecia is used for the treatment of male pattern hair loss on the anterior mid-scalp area (middle front of head) and the vertex (top of head). Receding hairlines at the temples may also be treated but there is no sufficient evidence as to the effect of Propecia in this respect. Propecia is to be used by men only.

Propecia is administered in the form a tablet once daily. It may be taken with or without food. Follow prescription instructions carefully. Do not alter the dosing schedule or take more or less frequently than prescribed by your doctor. Even if your condition improves, do not terminate the treatment with Propecia without consulting your doctor first.

Warnings Precautions

If you have liver disease, consult your doctor before taking Propecia. Dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment may be required and in some cases the use of Propecia might not be recommended at all. Propecia is to be taken by men only. Women should not take or handle this medication if they are pregnant or could become pregnant. Propecia is in the X FDA pregnancy category, meaning that Propecia causes birth defects in the fetus. Since the medication may be absorbed through the skin, women who are or may become pregnant must not handle crushed or broken Propecia tablets. Although exposure to whole tablets is not considered dangerous, it should be avoided and tablets must not be swallowed under any circumstances. It is not clear whether Propecia is passed onto breast milk and this medicine must be avoided if you are breast-feeding.

Missing a Dose

In case of missing a tablet, take it as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule if you do not remember to take the tablet on the same day. Never take two doses at the same time.

Possible Side Effects

If you experience an allergic reaction (difficulty in breathing; throat congestion; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives), discontinue the treatment with Propecia and seek medical help at once.
Few other side effects have been reported and these usually subside over time. If you experience decreased libido (sex drive), reduced ejaculation volume, impotence (trouble in getting or maintaining an erection) or breast tenderness or enlargement, do not terminate the treatment with Propecia and seek your doctor’s advice. If you detect any symptoms that appear unusual or are particularly irritating, consult your doctor.

Storage

Store Propecia at room temperatures of between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C). Keep in a tightly closed container. Do not expose to moisture.

Overdose

The symptoms of a Propecia overdose have not been investigated sufficiently. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical help immediately.

More Information

Propecia should only be used for its intended purpose and not for the treatment of other conditions. Do not recommend or give Propecia to other people. Your prescription is personal. If Propecia is to be taken over an extended period of time, obtain supplies before you run out of medication. Keep Propecia out of reach of children.
