Skelaxin

Skelaxin is based on an active ingredient called cyclobenzaprine which acts as a muscle relaxant. It is used to relieve pain and stiffness caused by muscle injuries, including muscle spasms, strains and sprains. Skelaxin is administered orally in the form of tablets.

The recommended dosage for adults is two tablets (800 mg) three to four times a day. In case of an upset stomach, the medication may be taken with food. Follow prescription instructions carefully. Do not overdose or take more frequently than prescribed by your doctor.

Warnings Precautions

If you have been diagnosed with acute intermittent porphyria, you should not take Skelaxin. If you suffer from liver disease, you should consult your doctor before taking Skelaxin. Lower dosage or special monitoring may be required during treatment in such cases. Children younger than the age of 12 should not be treated with Skelaxin. Since the effect of Skelaxin on the fetus is unknown, consult your doctor first if you are pregnant. It is also not clear whether Skelaxin is passed onto breast milk and you should seek your doctor’s advice if you are breast-feeding.

Missing a Dose

In case of a missed dose, take it as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule if it is almost time for your next dose. Never take two doses of Skelaxin in order to catch up.

Possible Side Effects

Nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal upset, drowsiness, dizziness, headaches, and nervousness or agitation are among the most common side effects of Skelaxin. Hypersensitivity reactions, characterized by a light rash with or without pruritus; leukopenia; hemolytic anemia; jaundice have been reported in some cases.

Storage

Store Skelaxin at room temperature of between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C). Do not expose to moisture and sunlight. Do not store in the bathroom.

Overdose

Drowsiness or unconsciousness are among the symptoms of a Skelaxin overdose. In case of a suspected overdose, seek medical help immediately.

More Information

Skelaxin may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Exercise caution when driving, and operating machinery, and avoid hazardous activities in order to reduce the risk of accidents. Alcohol may enhance the effect of Skelaxin and its consumption should be limited.
