Sumycin is used for the treatment or prevention of infections caused by susceptible bacteria. The recommended daily dose for Sumycin is 1g to 2g. In case of severe infections, the daily dosage may be increased.
The therapy must continue for at least 24 to 48 hours after the symptoms have subsided.
Warnings Precautions
If you have a history of hypersensitivity to tetracyclines, consult your doctor before using Sumycin. The use of Sumycin in the absence of a proven or strongly suspected bacterial infection or a prophylactic indication is unlikely to be beneficial. It may also increase the risk of developing drug-resistant bacteria.
Missing a Dose
Missing doses or not completing the full course of the treatment may decrease its effect. In some cases, bacteria may develop resistance and will not be treatable by Sumycin or other antibacterial drugs in the future.
Possible Side Effects
Anorexia, epigastric distress, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bulky loose stools, stomatitis, sore throat, glossitis, black hairy tongue, dysphagia, hoarseness, enterocolitis, and inflammatory lesions (with candidal overgrowth) in the anogenital region are among some of the possible side effects of Sumycin.
Storage
Store Sumycin at room temperature. Do not expose to heat. Dispense in tight, light-resistant containers. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In case of a suspected overdose, seek medical help immediately.
More Information
Periodic clinical examination of organ system function, including the renal, hepatic, and hematopoietic systems must be carried out in the case of patients undergoing long-term treatment with Sumycin.
